The Mass (or Be Real as it was known) held its first service at Easter in 1993. The service was run by a group of young people who were looking for new ways in which to meet and experience God, which were relevant to the fast paced multi media culture they were living in. The service was run again in autumn of that year and proved to be a similar success.

The Mass began holding monthly services twelve years ago which changed to every fortnight in about 1995. Since The Mass began, a number of different services have been created ranging from a completely self centred meditation space to very upbeat dance services, with many variations in between.

Our communion ritual was set up in February 1996 after consultation with Bishop Jonathan of Derby as there was no formal communion service that suited the existing structure

Bishop Jonathan invited The Mass to the Derbyshire Clergy Conference where workshops and a communion service were held, with great success. The-Mass has since run 'one off' services in different venues around the country, including the Greenbelt festival.

In 2003 The Mass moved from its original home to its own space in Derby City. After a period of change and development into this new beginning for the community, services are now running twice monthly again.
We look forward to seeing you there.
